Dateline July 11, 2015: Are Silver Eagles running out? Maybe so: The demand for US Silver Eagle Bullion coins had been extremely high recently, so high, that the US Mint has had to temporarily stop producing them until it replenishes its supply. This according to an article by Lawrence Williams in Mineweb. Sales were greater than 4.8 million ounces in June, double that of the same period in May. During the first week of July, 1.6 million ounces of Silver American Eagles were sold by the US Mint.
Now this is very interesting considering that the price of silver itself has fallen below $15 an ounce, as the precious metals bear market continues. Apparently, silver investors are snapping up the Eagles not only because they are now so cheap, but demand for them has been exacerbated by the recent financial turmoil in Greece.
At some point in time, investor sentiment will reverse, and silver will rise in price. Buyers of silver now will stand to make some very nice profits. Apparently some savvy investors are already buying.
This is an excellent time to acquire a few Silver Eagles for your own portfolio. Be sure to visit our preferred broker, Golden Eagle Coins, where you can safely order them for immediate delivery at very low prices.
Update Nov. 14, 2015: Apparently its not just the Silver Eagles. The US Mint announced on November 13, 2015 that it has run out of 2015 quarter-ounce Gold Eagles (source: Coin World). The Mint reported that sales had reached 152,000 coins, 34,000 more than 2014’s total. The Mint will continue to sell their remaining inventories of 2015-dated American Eagle one ounce, one-half ounce and one-tenth ounce gold bullion coins until those inventories are depleted. They plan no additional 2015-dated production once inventories are sold out. It appears that shrewd investors are taking action during these times of relatively low gold price.
Update Dec. 16, 2015:
The U.S. Mint produced a record number of American Eagle Silver bullion coins this year and all of the coins have been sold out, according to Coin Update. The mint will be producing no more 2015 silver bullion coins.
The overall total for 2015 American Eagle bullion coins sold stands at 47,000,000 ounces, nearly 3 million more than last year’s record of 44,006,000.
The Mint will begin offering 2016 issues of the American Eagle Silver bullion coins on January 11.
